The Grand Hotel does not look so grand on arrival, being a bit tired and in need of a refurb. However, the location is stunning and if you have a room facing the slopes as we did (206) the view is superb and you get the sun on the balcony all afternoon. We even managed to get the hotel to supply us two deckchairs for the balcony which was great for a glass of wine at the end of the day. The hotel shuttle to and from the slopes is brilliant...Sebastian the driver is a great guy and always turns up 2 minutes after you call his mobile. Food was fine, not fabulous, but more than adequate. I agree with comments elsewhere re the Gala night...give it a miss as you will be waiting two hours for your main course if you arrive at 7.30pm as we did. Room was warm and cozy, if a bit dated, the cleaners did a great job. All staff very friendly, don't bother with the Spa, its tiny and they charge 15 Euro each for an hour. The hotel is at the top of the town so its 500m walk downhill to the main slopes. (use the hotel shuttle) We used the Hotel boot room for ski's and boots without any problem (its inside the Hotel and locked over night). We booked our trip via Inghams and everything worked very well. Recommended. (note that its well worth a day in Montgenevre which is included in the lift pass...great skiing and best snow)

The hotel was full of character, staff were very helpful and all areas were clean and inviting. Our room was adequate and the bathroom was great ... a jacuzzzi in bath and plentiful toiletries. The food was great every night except for Gala Dinner. It was basically a selection of carbohydrate and cheese dishes! I am allergic to cheese and was given a very basic alternative .... it’s Italy and I know there will be lots of cheese but the food was very poor on this night .... all of my party and other guests said the same. However, every other night the buffet was excellent ... varied, high quality and lots of choice. The hotel location is very central to bars and shops and a 10 minute walk to slopes. The hotel ski room was not secure so we decided to store our skis in a locker on slopes. There is a courtesy bus but you have to ring them to pick you up to return which is a bit inconvenient. The hotel offers a discount with one of the ski locker companies ‘Rent and Go’ on the slopes so we went there, only to be met with a very angry and abusive man who said we could not have a locker as we had not hired our skis from him. I was very annoyed as I had checked out the lockers earlier and had not been told they were not available for hire for everyone, also the hotel did not tell us that you had to hire skis from there to rent a locker. It was a poor start to holiday and I reported it to hotel but had no response. I think it is very bad to offer a discount and not make the customer aware that it is not available to all customers. However, we then found a far superior locker company ‘Ada Ski ‘ ... it was nearer the chairlift, very secure just use your lift pass, warm lockers , very clean and courteous friendly staff. It cost 5 euros a day but well worth it... highly recommend, so convenient. The hotel spa was first class... we used it on three afternoons and felt it was good value at 10 euros each. It was spotlessly clean and well maintained with lovely staff. Great ski trip ... great place all in all!

We were offered this hotel as an alternative to one in Claviere after a booking error by the ski company. We wouldn’t have chosen it as we were travelling with my 4yr old however it offered first class service and gave us a wonderful trip. The food was varied and very nicely prepared and served, staff were always happy to offer an alternative to my fussy child! The rooms were comfortable and warm but unfortunately some other guests were rather noisy late at night but we understood this was out with the control of the hotel. Shuttle bus to and from the slopes was so handy and the driver went the extra mile. We enjoyed the music in the early evening and there was a pleasant atmosphere in the place.

A beautiful hotel with great helpful staff I emailed the hotel to check if they offered gluten free options to the menu (my partner has Coeliac Disease so it’s not a GF fad diet). The response was quick and confirmed they did. So I booked our ski trip via Neilson. I was not disappointed on arrival, it’s an incredibly quirky hotel, the rooms are basic for a 4 star, however, little time was spent in the room, it was clean and tidy and cleaned daily. As it was a half board basis, the food was more a buffet option, but had an amazing selection. The staff were incredibly helpful with dietary requirements and ensured my partner had enough to eat each night. It also boasts an amazing wine selection, trust the waiters when they advise what to drink, they were spot on with what we wanted each night. There were a couple of nights of rowdiness from other guests, but that’s not the hotels fault and I made no effort to complain. All in all, an amazing place to stay with great entertainment. A massive thank you to all the staff for making it so easy with the gluten free options to ensure that our stay was incredibly pleasant.

Great staff in reception and at the restaurant, friendly and helpful. Room spacious, balcony overlooking slopes, bathroom clean and all works, plenty of wardrobe space. I hear rooms in upper floors have been updated. Ours is fully panelled. Spa great, I went after 6pm and was by myself most evenings. Meals varied for breakfast and dinner. Plenty of choice. Some dishes cooked to order. Good social spaces in reception floor. Bar available, afternoon snacks with drinks (as in all bars locally). Helpful bar staff. Very helpful bus driver to and from slopes. Great snow conditions on Feb Half term 2018 (Not ruled by hotel, but made for a fun skiing week) . Would come again.

About Sestriere

Sestriere is part of the Vialattea ski area, an international ski area that includes 7 other mountain resorts all connected to each other. The other locations are Sauze d’Oulx, Oulx, Sansicario, Cesana, Pragelato, Claviere and the French Montgenèvre. They offer 400 Km of slopes: more than 249 runs (7 green ones, 80 blue ones, 120 red ones and 42 black ones) and 70 lifts. The ski area is vast and varied, thus able to meet all expectations. Either alone or along with one of the 800 ski and snowboard instructors from one of the 14 schools in the area you’ll discover how unique these places are, the tracks, slopes and the paths that twist and turn between the firs and larches… and why not, relax and enjoy a nice glass of red wine or an extraordinary traditional dish in one of the lodges in the ski area. Italian cuisine lovers won’t be disappointed in the Vialattea villages; more than 30 lodges give comfort to the skiers who prefer to stay out on the slopes all day without giving up their deserved break in front of a typical dish.
