La Clusaz is a ski resort in the Aravis Mountain range, situated in the French Northern Alps, not far from Switzerland and Italy. The village is located in the territory of Annecy Mountains, in the Haute-Savoie department, at an altitude of 1040 meters. The resort peaks at 2600 meters above sea level and is spread over 4 areas: Balme, Aiguille, Etale and Beauregard. With those 4 interlinked massifs, each with their own character, La Clusaz is one giant playground. You can vary the fun as you follow the line of the sun from the Etale massif to the Balme massif. Over the 85 slopes there are 125kms of descent all linked by a top-class ski lift network to allow you to easily access the centre of the village on skis. The commune has notably remarkable belvederes, like the Aravis pass with its view on the Mont Blanc, the Alps summit (4610 m). The landscape is quite tormented because of erosion, which has led to the formation of suspended valleys called combes: the combe de Balme, de Torchère, des Juments, du Fernuy. The ski resort was developed in the early 1950s around the village, which gives to the place a very charming atmosphere. Above all, in La Clusaz you can practise alpine skiing, nordic skiing and ski-touring. La Clusaz is one of the most well-known cross-country skiing areas in Haute Savoie and has two well-established Nordic areas: Les Confins with 63km of slopes and Beauregard with 36km of slopes and an outstanding view over the Aravis mountain range and Mont Blanc. The Aravis Mountain range is one of the places in the Alps where the rural way of life has continued. The economical activity in La Clusaz is mainly tourism, in winter as well as in summer since the village is charming all over the year and the environment is quite protected. There is still agriculture, about thirteen farms are producing cheese. The most famous is « reblochon ». Still often, people have a double job here, pluriactivity is really one of the specific features in a mountain environment, even for young people. This consists of carrying out at least two activities during the year, either successively or at the same time. They will be ski instructors or ski patrollers in winter and farmers, plumbers, electricians or carpenters the rest of the year. There are also many small companies linked to wooden industries (chalet buildings and renewals), small workshops, artisans and craftsmen.
